Lorry driver is reported after 'almighty crash'

A man in his 50s has been reported for careless driving after a lorry ploughed into a church wall, police have said.

The vehicle was travelling along Royal Wootton Bassett High Street, Wiltshire, on Wednesday afternoon when it left the road.

The lorry hit brick walls outside the two houses before ploughing into another wall in what a neighbour described as an "almighty crash" outside Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

There are no reported injuries. Wiltshire Police said they responded to a call about the incident at around 13:35 GMT.

Police closed the road from Coxstalls roundabout to the Lime Kiln traffic lights.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said she heard the accident from her home.

"I was working upstairs in my house and heard an almighty crash," she said.

"My husband asked me to come out and have a look and we saw that the lorry had crashed into the wall.

"(There is) a lot of concern here from people of course, children could have been walking home from school, but thankfully no one's been seriously hurt."
