Empty bank building could become Nepalese eaterie

A listed building that once housed a city centre bank could become a Nepalese restaurant after plans were submitted to a council.

A licence application details plans to convert the former Yorkshire Bank branch in Church Street, Peterborough, into a restaurant and bar called the Kathmandu Lounge.

The two-floor building has stood empty since the branch closed in 2017.

The application, by Gurkha Lounge Ltd, seeks permission to operate the venue until 03:00, including provision for parties and events.

Members of the public can comment on the licence application until17 September.

A separate planning application for the same venue submitted to Peterborough City Council in June for a change of use, with installation of an external kitchen, is still pending.
