Lift shafts craned into place at busy station

A station's third and final lift shaft has been craned into place as part of engineering work to improve access for rail passengers.

Lifts are being installed from a footbridge, which crosses all four platforms at Barnt Green station in Worcestershire.

Network Rail said the £7.5m project should be finished shortly, providing step-free access to all trains for the first time.

Nearly 300,000 journeys are made to and from Barnt Green each year, the organisation said. The station provides a stop on the Birmingham Cross City line and is also a calling point on services to Bromsgrove.
