Military medals have been stolen during a burglary which took place two days before Christmas police have said.

The medals, along with cash, were stolen from a home on Mulberry Way in Barrow, Cumbria between 10:00 and 19:30 GMT on 23 December.

The two medals were a General Service Medal - Northern Ireland and an Iraq War Medal.

Det Sgt Darren Henderson from Cumbria Police said the medals held "significant sentimental value" to their owner and the force wanted them "returned to their rightful owner".

"If you think you might have been offered them for sale or know who could be responsible for taking them, please contact us immediately," Det Sgt Henderson said.

"I would also appeal to antique dealers or medal specialists; if you have been offered any of these medals, or if anybody has recently purchased a medal and you do not know where they have come from, please get in touch with us."
