Phone app for Humber Bridge toll users goes live
PA MediaAn app which will allow motorists to pay for their Humber Bridge crossings has gone live.
The tolling system, which requires motorists to pay via a phone app or website in advance or before midnight the day after their crossing, came into force on Saturday, replacing toll booths after 40 years.
The app is available for Apple users but not yet for those with Android phones, bridge officials said in a social media post.
They have also reassured motorists they were "working hard" to resolve an issue affecting the phone app.
The Humber Bridge Facebook page said: "We're very sorry that the app is one day late and we really appreciate you bearing with us.
"And Android users, we're grateful for your patience and we hope to have some good news for you soon."
Apple users can search for Humber Bridge or Humber Bridge Toll in the App Store and will need to make sure their device is running on iOS 15.6 or later for it to work.
Bridge officials said on Monday they were aware of "some challenges" when people tried to call the customer service team and had provided an additional number as well as extending opening times.
People who are unable to use the app are advised to pay via the website. There are also options to pre-pay by cash or card at shops under the PayPoint scheme.
Anyone struggling to use the new system can call 01482 235500 or the new number of 02046 468929.
The customer service team's extended hours are from 08:00 until 18:00 GMT Monday to Friday, and 09:00 until 13:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
Fees for crossing the bridge have also risen for the first time in 13 years, from £1.50 to £2 each way. People with an account will save 25%.
Those who fail to pay before or after crossing will be charged a £25 administration fee.
A bridge spokesperson previously said: "Although some might have experienced initial difficulties in accessing their accounts, these were due to teething issues which have now been resolved.
"We can confirm the toll accounts and the new website are fully functional. Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, the app is yet to launch but we are working hard to resolve the issues and will keep customers informed as to when they can download it."
