Police have now arrested 43 people following disorder in Middlesbrough

Eight more people have been arrested after disorder broke out in Middlesbrough over the weekend.

Cleveland Police said officers had now held a total of 43 people in connection with the disturbances, up from 35 on Sunday.

The Teesside force said extra patrols would continue to be present around the town while the investigation continued.

The violence was described by Assistant Chief Constable David Felton as "staggering".

Cars were set alight, missiles thrown at police and windows of cars and homes smashed as unrest developed in a range of towns and cities across England over the weekend.
