Colourful murals transform coastal town

A seaside town in East Sussex will have its blank walls decorated for the next month in a celebration of its community, landscape, nature and history.

The project, organised by Look Again Newhaven, will see gatherings take place in multiple locations across the town.

The pieces of art will be on permanent display and 13 artists have been specially commissioned as part of the project.

Co-organiser Anthony Peters said the hope was that the artwork would bring "joy and inspiration" to residents and encourage people to visit the area.

In addition to the public mural programme, there will be a colourful series of "paste-up" artworks created by artists on display across the town and at Charleston in Lewes.

Paste-ups have a rich history based in the global street art movement, traditionally allowing artists to communicate their message to a wide audience via the use of unsanctioned public spaces.
