Village bridge wrecked by lorry driver reopens

Footage taken on 11 February showed the lorry driver crashing through the bridge

A bridge damaged when a lorry driver drove through it has reopened to vehicles after being closed for just over a fortnight.

The lorry hit and smashed over one side of the brick bridge in Church Road, Swallowfield, on 11 February.

Access was soon made available for pedestrians and cyclists but Wokingham council's assessment of the structure was delayed because of the high level of the River Blackwater.

Concrete blocks have been placed on the side of the bridge to form a temporary barrier between the road and the river.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said no-one was arrested and the incident has been filed "pending any further information coming to light".

Anyone with information should call 101 or make a report on the force's website, quoting reference number 43260070856.
