The Very Reverend Simon Robinson has been announced as the next Bishop of Warrington.

Downing Street confirmed his nomination for the position had been approved by King Charles.

Robinson said he was "daunted and excited" by his new role.

His predecessor, the Right Reverend Bev Mason, left her post on 30 September after identifying herself as one of the two women who accused the former Bishop of Liverpool of sexual misconduct.

It comes after the former Bishop of Liverpool John Perumbalath resigned in January 2025 following sexual assault and harassment allegations against him in a Channel 4 News investigation, which he denied.

He said at the time he stepped down it was "not a resignation occasioned by fault or by any admission of liability".

Ordained in 2012, Robinson has served as Dean of Truro since January 2024, having been the Interim Dean since October 2022.

Before his ordination, he worked in education for 24 years, including serving as a head teacher.

He will be officially consecrated by the Archbishop of York during a service in York Minster on 30 April before attending his official welcome service at Liverpool Cathedral on 23 May.
