Road diversions will be in place this weekend to allow for further Sizewell C construction work

A major road in Suffolk is due to be closed over the weekend for a second time to allow for work linked to the Sizewell C nuclear power station.

Part of the A12 near Yoxford, at the junction with the B1122, will close from 20:00 GMT on Friday until 05:00 on Monday.

The official diversion route could add nearly 100 miles (161km) to journeys, however advisory signs will ask drivers to find alternative routes if they can't follow the official diversion.

Last month another weekend closure on the A12 took place. The closures are for installation works on roundabouts that are set to open in the spring.

The planned diversion route asks drivers to travel via the A146, A143 and A14.

Sizewell C apologised for "any disruption caused by the temporary closure".

A spokesperson said: "The roundabout will have a long-term benefit for the area. It will significantly improve safety on a stretch of road known locally as a risk for drivers."
