Plans for new bus depot for Sizewell C workers
Sizewell CPlans for a new depot that will house buses used to transport the Sizewell C workforce between sites have been announced.
Sizewell C wants to build the hub in Ipswich at Ransomes Europark, close to the A14.
It would operate 24 hours a day and maintain a mixed fleet of about 150 zero-emission buses that will take workers to and from the nuclear power station, which is under construction in Leiston.
Sizewell C said the new hub would create 400 new jobs and 75% of bus drivers would come from the East of England.
Damian Leydon, site delivery director, said the buses would ease congestion and provide sustainable travel.
"By taking thousands of cars off local roads each day, our buses will ease congestion, reduce emissions, and contribute to cleaner air," Leydon said.
"Investing in modern, efficient vehicles shows how major infrastructure projects like Sizewell C can help accelerate the transition to sustainable travel."
Sizewell CSizewell C plans to refurbish a site within Ransomes Europark and said electric vehicle charging points and hydrogen dispensing stations could be installed.
Most of the bus journeys will take place outside of rush hour traffic, it added.
A planning application for the depot will be submitted to Ipswich Borough Council in the coming weeks, with a decision expected by the spring.
