The Via Gellia (A5012) road in Derbyshire is set to reopen to traffic after work to remove trees affected by ash dieback disease was completed.

Derbyshire County Council said the road would reopen on Friday afternoon after the project concluded ahead of a scheduled finish date of 27 February.

The authority said contractors started work to clear trees at risk of falling onto the road on 5 January.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We realise that the day-time closures of the Via Gellia has made life difficult for all those who use the road and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused, but public safety had to come first."
