A rescue terrier with a penchant for warm welcomes has shown anything is paw-ssible, after she became the first ever dog to win a hospitality award.

Skye's tail-wagging receptions have been deemed so special no human could live up to her standard, not even her owner Ray Smith, who manages a holiday park near Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria.

The pair were shortlisted for an Exceptional Service Award from the Holiday and Residential Parks Association (HARPA), with Skye taking the crown.

The 14-year-old mixed terrier has been a firm favourite at Woodclose Park since Smith rescued her from the Wainwright Shelter of Animal Rescue Cumbria two years ago.

"At fourteen years old, Skye is far from being a puppy," Smith said.

"But you wouldn't believe that when you see the enthusiasm, joy and affection she shows to all our visitors."

He said the pooch had become a celebrity among guests, who eagerly looked for her around the park for cuddles.

"I'm so proud of her, and of everyone who works here for their dedication and kindness," he said.

HARPA said the association was delighted to honour Skye with the accolade for "going above and beyond the call of duty".
