Jowad Haji, an Iraqi national, was arrested by Warwickshire Police in February and appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old denied a rape charge, said to have been committed in Stratford-upon-Avon in January. He also pleaded not guilty to counts of attempted rape, sexual assault and intentional strangulation relating to the same complainant.
Haji, of Park Street, Coventry, spoke only to confirm his name and not guilty pleas during the brief hearing. He was remanded in custody by Judge Anthony Potter to appear for trial on 17 August.
