A bird strike on an overhead electricity line in Nottinghamshire cut power to hundreds of homes.

National Grid said a fault on a high‑voltage power line in Alfreton Road in Sutton‑in‑Ashfield at about 18:30 GMT caused a power cut that affected 651 properties on Sunday.

According to the energy body the strike caused flashing, and following customer calls, staff attended the power line, and the fault was made safe.

National Grid said power was restored to 644 properties by 20:28, and to all by 22:03.

A National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson said: "We'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding as we worked to reconnect them."
