The A20 had been expected to remain closed most of Sunday morning

The London-bound stretch of the A20 near Dover has reopened after an HGV overturned and left the carriageway in the early hours.

Kent Police said officers were called at 01:20 GMT to a report of an overturned vehicle and closed the carriageway so the vehicle could be recovered.

The section between the A256 for Dover and the B2011 at Capel-le-Ferne was shut for the morning and early afternoon.

But National Highways said just after 15:30 all lanes were open after the HGV's recovery was complete.

There were delays of less than 10 minutes on the approach, it added.

National Highways said the closure was required to ensure the safety of specialist recovery crews working at the scene.

A diversion route, via York Street and the B2011, was put in place and National Highways advised motorists to allow extra time or to delay their journeys.
