Services have returned to normal for passengers travelling between Kent and Calais following a power cut in the Channel Tunnel.

Eurotunnel suspended its LeShuttle passenger service through the tunnel at Folkestone on Tuesday. It later resumed but customers in Kent were still facing five-hour delays at 21:00 GMT.

LeShuttle, which provides train services for people and their vehicles, originally warned customers on Wednesday morning of delays of about an hour in Folkestone and about six hours in Calais.

However, estimated delays were reduced throughout the morning before customers were told services were running as scheduled.

On both sides, passengers were being encouraged to check in as planned.

The disruption on Tuesday was due in part to a failed LeShuttle train blocking all routes after the power supply problem in the Channel Tunnel. The train was later removed.

Eurostar said it planned to run all services, but warned of "some delays and possible last-minute cancellations".

Those travelling by ferry through the Port of Dover had to wait an extra 90 minutes for much of the day because of the knock-on effect.

But the port said it was now "business as usual" with no extra traffic.
