Jersey signs up to pan-island ferry working group

Jersey has confirmed it will join a new pan-island working group aimed at improving inter-island ferry services across the Channel Islands and to France from 2026.

Guernsey Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, president of the Committee for Economic Development, said the States of Jersey had agreed to take part following discussions with Jersey's Deputy Morel.

The group will bring together ferry operators Brittany Ferries, Islands Unlimited and Manche-Iles Express, with DFDS also joining alongside the States of Jersey.

Its focus will be on developing improved timetables to better support inter-island sporting events and associations, as well as improving the timing and availability of general sailings between the islands.

Deputy Kazantseva-Miller said it was encouraging to see "strong political will in Jersey" to improve inter-island travel and added that discussions would continue with the Government of Jersey and DFDS to secure what she described as a "reciprocal rotation" of services.

The working group was announced last week as part of wider efforts to strengthen sea links across the Channel Islands, with the aim of making inter-island travel more reliable and practical for residents, sports clubs and visitors.
