Man dies after livestock lorry crash on major road

The collision was reported at Skellingthorpe roundabout just after 10:00 GMT

A man has died after a crash involving two cars and a livestock lorry which overturned.

Lincolnshire Police said the collision, at Skellingthorpe roundabouton the A46 Lincoln bypass was reported just after 10:00 GMT on Thursday.

The force said the crash involved a grey Honda Jazz, a white Ford Mondeo and a Volvo HGV which was carrying cows.

Earlier, a spokesperson said the A46 would remain closed between the Doddington Road and Carholme Road roundabouts for most of the day.

Skellingthorpe Road was also closed on both sides of the A46.

Police said the man died at the scene and his family had been informed.

Sgt Adam Doona from the serious collision investigation unit said: "This is a tragic incident and my condolences go to the family and friends of the man who has died.

"We have a lot of work to do at the scene, with a full scene examination to ensure all and any evidence is secured and preserved.

"The HGV was transporting a number of cows, and we have specialists dealing with these animals."

Police appealed for witnesses to the collision to get in touch.
