Nearly 6,000 islanders have had their Covid-19 booster this winter, according to the latest figures from Public Health Jersey.

The update shows 5,948 doses were given by 12 January, with just over half of people aged 75 and older taking up the offer. Among care home residents, uptake is slightly higher at 64%.

The booster programme started in late September and is aimed at those most at risk of serious illness including anyone aged 75 and older, and care home residents.

Health bosses are urging anyone eligible who has not yet booked to do so as soon as possible.

Flu vaccinations have seen a bigger response. So far, 29,405 islanders have rolled up their sleeves.

About two-thirds of people aged 65 and older have had the jab, and uptake among care home residents is at 70%.

Children were offered the nasal spray vaccine in schools from mid-September, while adults could book through GPs and pharmacies from the end of that month.

The flu vaccine is free for older people, pregnant women, children, and those with certain health conditions. Covid boosters are also free for those in the highest-risk groups.
