The breakdown of the machinery has led to a westbound section of the motorway being closed

The breakdown of plant machinery used in overnight roadworks on the M62 in West Yorkshire caused long delays on Tuesday morning.

The machinery broke down close to junction 24 on the motorway at Ainley Top, Huddersfield, National Highways said.

The body said the westbound section had been closed with traffic being diverted via entry and exit slip roads.

A spokesperson said the carriageway was reopened at about 09:00.
