Jersey Airport is set to open 30 minutes earlier than usual for two days to help make the Christmas getaway go "as smoothly as possible".

Ports of Jersey said it was expecting a busy period from Friday until Monday with 20,000 departing and arriving passengers.

The airport will open from 05:00 GMT on Friday and Monday with passengers asked to arrive "in plenty of time" for check-in and security checks before heading to their gate.

Sarah-Louise Stubbs, head of customer experience and terminal operations, said the airport wanted everyone to start their journey "stress-free".

She said: "By opening earlier on Friday and Monday and encouraging passengers to arrive in good time, we're making sure the festive getaway is as smooth as possible."

Passengers have also been reminded not to wrap any presents in hand luggage as they would need to be opened at security.

People have also been advised not to travel with any Christmas crackers or party poppers as they are banned items.
