Nine teenagers aged between 13 and 19 have been arrested after a man was stabbed in a road.

Police said they were called at about 16:30 GMT on 28 January to Fyning Street in Portsmouth.

They said a 50-year-old man was taken to hospital with "life-changing" stab wounds to his abdomen.

Seven male teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A 14-year-old boy was arrested for wounding with intent and a 15-year-old for assisting an offender and obstructing police.

The suspects, all from Portsmouth, have been released on bail until April while inquiries continue.

They include a 13-year-old, as well as two boys aged 14, four 15-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old man.

Police said the victim, who was found at the junction with Charles Street, was in a "serious but stable" condition.

They have appealed for witnesses and footage from the nearby Arundel Street Gardens area from about 16:00 GMT.
