Bomb squad detonate 'suspicious package' at RAF Lossiemouth
Getty ImagesA bomb disposal team has detonated a "suspicious package" in a controlled explosion at RAF Lossiemouth.
A cordon was put in place after the item was discovered during a routine security search at the Moray base.
The RAF said that some personnel had been temporarily moved at the site "as a precaution" but flying operations had not been affected.
A spokesperson added: "The EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team confirmed that the suspicious package contained nothing of concern. People are returning to previously evacuated buildings."
The base in north-east Scotland is one of two RAF Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) stations with jets that protect UK airspace.
