A fighter jet declared a mid-air emergency while over Scotland, the RAF has said.

The Typhoon, which had been operating out of RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, encountered a flight control issue at about 12:20.

It is understood the Typhoon was on a routine training flight.

RAF Lossiemouth confirmed the jet landed safely at the Moray base at 12:44

RAF Lossiemouth is currently hosting a number of F-15 and F-35 jet aircraft as part of Exercise Point Blank.

It involves military aircraft operating over various areas of Scotland, particularly the Highlands and off the east coast.

Activity is expected to continue into February.
