Light show expected to attract thousands

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend a sound and light show which is set to illuminate the interior of a cathedral.

The Storytellers, a Luxmuralis installation at Durham Cathedral, will project ancient texts and literature - from children's classics to fantasy and romance - across all areas inside including the cloisters.

There will also be a soundscape celebrating the timeless tradition of sharing stories.

Running for five nights in October, the event coincides with the Magna Carta and the North exhibition currently on display at the cathedral museum.

Peter Walker, artistic director of Luxmuralis, described the installation as a playground for the imagination, with every corner holding a "new adventure".

He said: "Get ready to dive into the worlds of fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and detective stories, as our installations lead you on an unforgettable journey."

It is the fourth year that there has been a Luxmuralis installation at the cathedral, and each attracted more than 10,000 visitors over the five night runs.

Chief visitor officer, Andrew Usher said: "With three Magna Cartas on display in the museum, The Storytellers is the perfect theme for visitors to explore powerful words from history illuminating the cathedral walls, as well as see the original issues of the most important written documents in English history.

"We can't wait to see how our visitors react to these two fantastic, and very different experiences this autumn."
