The paddling pool in Central Park is currently undergoing maintenance checks

A popular paddling pool in a city park will re-open in July, two months after it would normally open for the summer season.

Peterborough City Council confirmed that the pool in Central Park will be available from 2 July following ongoing maintenance checks.

The reopening was delayed this year to allow the authority to "focus on making sure the pool can be opened consistently during July and August for the core summer months", it said.

Last year, the paddling pool had to be shut during the summer holidays until September due to a number of issues, including mechanical faults and traces of Legionella bacteria found in the water.

The pool in Bretton will also re-open for the summer season on 9 July

The Bretton Water Park in Barnstock, Peterborough, is also currently closed - which has left some local residents "frustrated".

But the facility, managed by Vivacity, is expected to open on 9 July after regular checks are finalised.

Meanwhile, the city’s lido opened in March to compensate for the closure of the regional pool.

The lido will host a sunrise and a new sunset swim on the longest day of the year.

The facility will open from 04:00 BST until 22:30 on 20 June.
