Consultation on future of Grade I town hall

The Old Town Hall building in South Shields is partially used as the market's superintendent's office, but has served as a market hub, courthouse and wartime shelter in its 250 year history.
South Tyneside Council said it has secured "limited government funding" to potentially bring the Old Town Hall back into regular use and has asked local residents and businesses their opinions on what it should be used as.
The consultation survey will run until 11 March.
Some of the ideas suggested by the local authority include a cafe, community meeting space, pop-up area for shops or market stalls or a cultural space for exhibitions and performances.
The questionnaire will also ask how important residents feel it is to preserve and reuse historic buildings.
Councillor Margaret Meling, lead member for economic growth and transport, said: "We have some limited government funding.
"The Old Town Hall has stood at the heart of South Shields for generations, and we want it to continue playing a meaningful role in the life our town."
