Send school's expansion could be complete by summer

A school that supports children with complex emotional and mental health needs is set to expand.

Inaura School has been operating one of its four Somerset sites at Leigh Road in Street since 2023.

Somerset Council has now approved plans for the school to extend into a neighbouring building on Leigh Road, creating places for four additional pupils. The project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2026.

A school spokesperson said: "We are proud to have found this additional building which will benefit the needs of the students in our care."

School leaders said the expansion would also allow it to employ four new teachers to continue its intensive one-on-one support, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

A school spokesperson said: "There are no adverse impacts that would stem from this proposal, let alone significant ones.

"Because of the special nature of the school and its large catchment area, it needs to be located where it is readily accessible to its students, and in suitable premises," they added.

The plans were approved by the council's planning officers through delegated powers.
