The deal will see fibre made in Indonesia used in Hawick-based Emtelle's products

A fibre optic cable firm based in southern Scotland has concluded a deal in Indonesia which it says will strengthen its "global manufacturing capacity and supply-chain resilience".

Emtelle, which has its headquarters in Hawick and a site in Jedburgh, employs about 800 people around the world.

The latest deal will see fibre manufactured in south-east Asia used in the company's fibre optic products as well as being supplied to customers in the United States and Europe.

Chief executive Tony Rodgers said it was "another milestone moment" in the story of the company.

Founded in Jedburgh in 1980, Emtelle has become a global leader in its sector with customers in more than 50 countries.

It has manufacturing facilities in Europe, North America and the Middle East.

About half of its workforce is employed in the Scottish Borders.

Rodgers said the latest deal in Indonesia would help address a key issue facing the industry.

"As global fibre demand continues to accelerate and supply tightens, Emtelle's investment in fibre drawing capacity significantly strengthens its ability to stay ahead of anticipated market constraints," he said.
