Court restores ban on Stuart Hogg contacting his ex-wife
PA MediaFormer Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been banned again from contacting his ex-wife by a court.
The 33-year-old - who admitted a domestic abuse charge in 2024 - was initially only allowed to communicate with Gillian Hogg through lawyers after being made subject to a non-harassment order in January 2025.
This was relaxed in October 2025 to allow the pair to discuss child care issues on a co-parenting phone app.
However, at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, the Crown lodged a successful application to revert the order to its original status, saying contact can only be through lawyers and removing the app condition.
It comes after it emerged last month that he had been re-arrested in February after a complaint he had breached the non-harassment order.
He was told to report to a police station in his home town in Hawick where he was interviewed and released without charge.
Hogg was excused attendance in court on Thursday due to now living in France but his lawyer Mat Patrick said the application from the Crown was "unchallenged" and would allow his lawyers to discuss child custody arrangements with her legal team.
Granting the application, Sheriff Peter Paterson said: "The order has reverted to the original form."
Stripped of MBE
The former Hawick and Glasgow Warriors player, who was capped 100 times for Scotland, was convicted of a single charge of domestic abuse in 2024 for which he was later given a one-year community payback order.
Selkirk Sheriff Court heard that he regularly shouted and swore at his wife Gillian, tracked her movements and sent her distressing messages over a five-year period.
A five-year non-harassment order was also imposed on Hogg and he was fined £600 for breaching his bail conditions by contacting his wife at the time.
Hogg remains one of Scotland's all-time leading try scorers.
Last month it emerged he had been stripped of the MBE that he was awarded in the 2024 New Year honours list for services to rugby.
