Aparthotel plan for former Wilko set for approval
GooglePlans to turn the floors above a former Wilko store in Chesterfield into an aparthotel are set to be given the go-ahead.
Chesterfield District Council's planning committee has been advised by planning officers to approve proposals on Monday to convert the upper floors of the former store on Vicar Lane into a 70-bed aparthotel.
According to planning documents, the developer proposes adding two additional floors to the building - with the ground floor available for retail units.
A report submitted with the planning application states the proposed development represents "significant private sector investment" into the town centre.
Planning documents state the former Wilko outlet has stood empty since the store closed in October 2023, after the chain went into administration.
A report by council officers recommending approval states the "substantial" extension to the building would have an "enclosing impact" to South Street.
"However, it is considered that, on balance, the harm identified is outweighed by the benefits associated with the regeneration and redevelopment of the site which will enhance and bring back into use a substantial vacant building within the town centre," it added.
