Arrest after woman falls ill from sample vape

A man has been arrested after a woman fell ill after being given a sample vape in a shop.

Police said a 20-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and drug supply offences following the incident in St James Street, Weston-super-Mare, on Saturday.

A number of vapes and forensic samples have been seized for examination, with a spokesperson for the North Somerset Neighbourhood Policing Team confirming the man remains in custody.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police.

A police spokesperson said they understood the community had "concerns" relating to the shop involved, adding: "We urge the public to continue working with us and to trust the investigative process.

"We have been exploring a range of intervention options for some time, and any new allegations will be taken seriously and investigated on their own merit, as with any crime report."
