An air service between Alderney, Jersey and Brest is set to continue for an extended period during this year's summer season.

The economic development committee said the French airline company Finistair would continue to run the service after the success of the two month trial operated last year.

It will run two times a week on Fridays and Sundays, from the last week of May through to the end of September.

The committee said the Finistair service was intended to "complement, not compete with, existing lifeline connectivity".

Stuart Clark, chair of the committee, said the trial showed a "demand for better inter-island and regional connectivity" and extending the service "allows us to build on that momentum".

"By working in partnership with the Government of Jersey and Ports of Jersey, and by supporting improved marketing and booking systems, we are giving this route the best possible chance to succeed," he added.
