A mural artist has won an award for her work beating more than 2,000 people.

Ellie Johnson, known as Mrs Murals, was awarded the Women in Arts, Media and Culture Award at The West Country Women's Awards at a ceremony held in the Crowne Plaza, Plymouth.

Among her work, Mrs Murals has transformed subways in Plympton and a primary school in Sherford, Plymouth.

Judge Trish Caller praised her community-focused artwork and said her application stood out for its impact and strong local support.

She said: "It was a difficult job to whittle down the applications to choose the finalists. The standard of the finalists was extremely high."

"Her recent efforts are evident in Derriford Hospital's Children's Theatres and numerous schools throughout south Devon", said Ms Caller.

Ms Johnson said: "Running a successful business in the arts can be challenging. I truly appreciate the support from my local community, which has played a key role in my success today.

"I'm also thankful to the wonderful team at The West Country Women's Awards for recognising my business among the remarkable finalists in my category with this incredible honour."

Organisers said she had been shortlisted from more than 2,000 nominees across the South West.

All winners, including Mrs Murals, have been invited to Westminster for a tour of the Houses of Parliament in February.
