We are about to bid farewell to autumn and officially welcome in the winter season.

Although the meteorological winter starts on 1 December, the astrological season begins on 21 December with the Winter Solstice.

It happens at 15:03 GMT on Sunday and marks the shortest day - and longest night - in the Northern hemisphere.

As we enter this new time of the year, we took a look back at the amazing autumnal spectacle that graced Cumbria.

From city snaps in Carlisle to Lake District views, our Weather Watchers' pictures captured the season beautifully.
