West Mercia Police were called to Waseley Hills High School in Rubery at 7.15 this morning.

A school has been closed, following a report of a knife being carried by a man who was later found to be a workman with scissors.

West Mercia Police were called to Waseley Hills High School in Rubery, Worcestershire, at 07:15 GMT on Monday.

Officers established the man was part of a construction team working on the school grounds, and had "no malicious intent".

Councillor Simon Morrall, representing the neighbouring Frankley Great Park area of Birmingham, posted a statement on social media which said the school had apologised for any inconvenience caused, and confirmed the site would be closed for the rest of the day.

In a statement, West Mercia Police said: "We received a call around 7.15am this morning (Monday 23 March) with a report of man with a knife walking into Waseley Hills High School in Rubery.

"Officers were deployed to the area, the man was located and it was established he had picked up a pair of scissors found outside the school.

"It was clear that there was no malicious intent and the man is part of the construction team working on the school grounds."
