Man charged after drone halts flights at Edinburgh Airport

A man has been charged after a drone entered restricted air space over Edinburgh Airport.

Several flights were held back after the aircraft was spotted in the exclusion zone at about 11:10 on Thursday.

Police Scotland said there was no threat to the public, but a man had been charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for the airport said it was "imperative" drone operators were aware of "flight restriction zones".

Services resumed this morning but there have been knock-on delays, diversions and cancellations to flights.

A consultation has opened into plans designed to reduce noise and cut emissions around Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

Support workers who help passengers with reduced mobility on and off planes had threatened to walk out over a pay row.

Officers attended 5,598 incidents last year, ranging from disturbances to border control issues, up 41% on 2022.

With more than half of the UK's busiest airports having raised 'kiss-and-fly' fees in the last year, some people have their own ideas.
