Woman robbed of car at knifepoint in Edinburgh

A woman was robbed of her car by knifepoint in Edinburgh in a "frightening" incident, police have said.

The 22-year-old driver had parked her white Peugeot 208 behind the Scotmid store at Morvenside Close in Wester Hailes when the robbery took place at15:20 on Tuesday.

As she was sitting in the car, a man approached, threatened her with a knife and demanded her keys.

When she got out of the vehicle a member of the public came to assist her. The thief then got into the driver's seat while another man standing nearby got into the passenger seat and the pair drove off.

Police Scotland said the woman was not injured but was left shaken up by the incident.

Officer are now carrying out extensive enquiries to trace the suspects who are described as white and of gaunt appearance.

One was aged 30-40 years with a scruffy blonde beard. He was wearing a black tracksuit and baseball cap.

The second man was wearing a navy tracksuit and a black balaclava.

Det Insp Robert Wallace said officers were gathering CCTV footage from the area.

He said: "This is a busy area and I am confident that there were people nearby who haven't yet spoken to police. I urge them to please get in touch.

"I also ask anyone with personal footage or dash-cam to review their footage and come forward if it holds anything relevant."
