Car meet drivers fined after 'large-scale' event
Bolsover District CouncilMore than 80 drivers who took part in a large-scale car cruising event in Derbyshire have been issued with fines.
Bolsover District Council worked with Derbyshire Constabulary and South Yorkshire Constabulary to issue fixed penalty notices to 81 drivers who were at the meet on the A617 in Doe Lea on 28 March.
The area is a known hotspot for car cruising meets and is covered by a Nuisance Vehicle Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).
The event caused significant disruption to local communities, with vehicles driving in convoy, stopping, revving engines, and spectators gathering along the route, the council said.
Clive Moesby, cabinet member for community safety and enforcement at Bolsover District Council, said the authority is committed to taking "robust action against those who choose to ignore the law".
"Nuisance car cruising has a serious impact on local communities, causing fear, disruption and risk to public safety," he added.
"We will continue to work closely with our police partners to identify offenders and take firm enforcement action."
The PSPO in place at the site prohibits activities such as car cruising, racing, revving engines, loud exhaust noise, and spectating at nuisance vehicle events.
Breaching the order can result in enforcement action, including fixed penalty notices or prosecution.
