The new centre will be built at the existing Nuffield Health Derby Hospital

Plans for a new cancer centre at a private hospital in Derby have been approved.

Derby City Council granted planning permission for the expansion at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital, in Rykneld Road, on Thursday.

Planning documents show the new two-storey building will provide radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment, and PET CT diagnostic testing along with general consultation and treatment services.

The development will also provide 30 new parking spaces at the site, including two EV charging bays and two accessible spaces.

The new centre will be open seven days a week

Developers Nuffield Health and Icon Group will extend the existing hospital on the north‑eastern side and add new parking on the south‑western side of the site.

Documents state the centre will be open every day from 06:00 to 20:00 and will operate on an outpatient basis only, meaning no overnight or in-patient treatments will be provided.

Icon Group said it was hoped the new centre would "improve access for patients, offering rapid access to care alongside the very best new technology and provide an additional choice for patients with private cover or who are self-insured".

Alex Perry, chief executive of Nuffield Health CEO, Alex Perry, said: "We are excited to partner with Icon to provide world-class cancer treatment services, and radiotherapy centres, alongside our existing healthcare offering."
