A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two residents sustained cuts at a nursing home.

Police were called shortly after 09:00 GMT to Westacre Nursing Home in Winchester, Hampshire.

An 83-year-old woman suffered cuts to her upper body and was taken to hospital. Another woman, aged 79, was treated at the scene for similar injuries, police said.

A 49-year-old woman has been arrested and remains in custody.

Police said inquiries were under way into the circumstances of the suspected assaults at the home in Sleepers Hill.

Detectives said people should "contact the home directly if they have any concerns about other residents".

However, police said people should not attend for routine appointments while inquiries continue.
