A man has been arrested after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in Doncaster.

The teenager was found with serious injuries after police were called to Pipering Lane, at the junction with Langdale Drive, shortly after 23:00 GMT on Friday.

South Yorkshire Police said he remained in hospital and was not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.

A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in custody, a spokesperson for the force said.

Officers investigating the incident said a 17-year-old boy, who attended hospital with minor injuries to his hands – believed to have been caused by a knife – had also been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in Amersall Road.

Det Insp Andrea Smith said: "We're working hard to piece together the circumstances of Friday night's stabbing and a man remains in our custody for questioning.

"While we do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public at this time, we understand this incident will have caused significant concern locally.

"Officers will remain in the area over the coming days."
