The first steps in looking at how a station's long-standing access problems might be resolved were taken last week, a council said.

Twyford station in Berkshire has limited access by bike and bus from some directions and demand for car parking significantly exceeds its 356 spaces.

Wokingham Borough Council said a cross-party group met last week and a senior councillor said the authority will work with Great Western Railway (GWR) regarding potential improvements.

Adrian Betteridge, the council's executive member for active travel, transport and highways, said establishing easy access to rail stations across the borough is one of its priorities.

"The issues at Twyford have proved difficult to fix over many years but I am committed to working with partners and the community to do so," he said.

"Once we have proposals that are robust, we will share these with the public."

The group will look at potential improvements including car parking, bus and active travel access, the authority said.

GWR operates services from Twyford to London Paddington, Reading and Henley, while the Elizabeth Line runs trains to Abbey Wood.
