Hospital looks to improve parking arrangements

A hospital says it is reviewing its car parking arrangements in a bid to better manage the system.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust said it would install cameras to monitor the use of parking at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

That data would be used to "inform future decisions about the allocation of parking", it said.

But the trust added: "We cannot confirm whether the number of patient spaces will increase."

Before any decisions on the number of spaces were made, the trust said: "We first need to establish whether the current provision, when managed effectively, is sufficient to meet demand."

While the review is taking place, the hospital trust said it would be introducing "a number of measures to improve access and management of existing car park facilities".

That would include reconfiguring the car parks to make best use of the available space and make it clear which areas were for staff and which were for patients.

On top of that, the trust said it hoped to get more staff using its free park and ride service and that these measures would ease the pressure on parking spaces.

The trust is also reviewing parking arrangements at its Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
