Campaign to raise awareness over Alderney election

The States of Alderney has said it hopes to "generate enthusiasm" for its autumn election with a new campaign.

Polling day for Alderney's general election takes place on 16 November at Island Hall when five of the 10 States of Alderney Member seats will be contested.

The government said it has created a new website, posters as well conducting as door-to-door visits to emphasise the importance of residents using their votes to "make their voice count".

It said the website also offered "detailed information" on how the government works and how to become a candidate in the elections.

Alderney’s returning officer chief clerk Theo Leijser said he hoped everyone who was eligible to vote would do so because a high turnout was "essential to show community spirit".

"We also hope a good number of candidates come forward for the election in a sense of engagement and collective responsibility," said Mr Leijser.

“We need candidates whose principal motivation is that they care about Alderney and have something positive to contribute either through their experience in life or their training and professional expertise, or both.”
