New policy set to make adapting homes easier
West Northamptonshire CouncilA council is making it easier for people to afford to adapt their homes to support independent living.
West Northamptonshire Council said its new Housing Adaptations Policy will speed up access to home improvements and remove financial barriers.
The policy introduces two new grants; one providing up to £30,000 for armed forces personnel and veterans and the other aiming to cover rising fees and VAT costs so residents are not priced out of the home improvements.
It is hoped by the authority that the policy changes will help respond to rising demand and labour costs.
Councillor Charlie Hastie, cabinet member for housing and communities, said: "This policy is about fairness, dignity and making sure residents can remain safe and independent in their own homes.
"We know demand is increasing and costs are rising, but no one should miss out on essential adaptations because of financial barriers or outdated processes.
"By introducing greater flexibility and dedicated support for our Armed Forces community, we are creating a modern, inclusive service that works for everyone and delivers real benefits for residents and our health and care partners."
