Layout of county's new town revealed in plans
Summix/Homes EnglandPlans for thousands of new homes to create a new town in Worcestershire have been formally submitted.
The proposals would see 10,000 homes built near Worcester and two large pieces of land being transformed to make up parts of Wychavon Town.
If approval is granted, a 191-hectare (472 acres) plot north-east of Worcestershire Parkway station would become the town centre as well as three residential neighbourhoods – Northbrook, Norton Fields and Southbrook.
The other piece covers 221 hectares (545 acres) of land south of the railway station and stretching either side of Stoulton, which would be turned into the Whittington Fields, Malvern View and Abbott's Wood Meadows neighbourhoods.
The plans also include spaces for a medical hub, retail, leisure, hotel and employment in the town centre.
Summix/Homes England"Housing in the core town centre will be higher density with predominantly apartment buildings and townhouses, set out in a tight network of streets," the application states.
The proposed names for some town centre streets are shown in the plans and include Market Square, Town Cross, Makers Yard, Pershore Street, Egdon Street and Ridgeway.
The Northbrook neighbourhood includes plans for a primary school, secondary school and a special educational needs and disabilities (Send) school.
Summix/Homes EnglandWhittington Fields, which would sit between the B4984 Pershore Road and the Cotswolds railway line, would also feature a primary school and sports facilities.
Abbott's Wood Meadows, at the southern end of the new town, would also have a primary school and a southern local centre with shops and services.
By 2041, developer Summix and Homes England, the government's housing and regeneration agency, expect to have built 5,000 homes out of the total.
The town centre master plan covers some 2,100 homes along with 50 care beds across the northern neighbourhoods.
The southern neighbourhood plan sets out where about 3,400 homes will go and says it would include a care home with 80 beds.
