Plans drawn up for 5,500 homes in new town

Plans for 5,500 new homes and a town centre have been submitted for a proposed new town in Worcestershire with the latest news called a "significant milestone" by a government agency.

The town, located around Worcestershire Parkway Railway Station, will at first be called Wychavon Town.

The development is expected to provide thousands of homes and 50 hectares (124 acres) of employment land by 2041 before growing in time to have 10,000 homes.

A spokesperson for Homes England, the government's housing and regeneration agency, said the two outline planning applications would now be formally considered by Wychavon District Council.

The two plans relate to the town centre and a southern neighbourhood for Wychavon Town.

Ben Frodsham, from Homes England, said: "The submission of outline planning applications for 5,500 new homes, a new town centre and supporting infrastructure is a significant milestone in the delivery of Wychavon Town."
