Two drivers have serious injuries following a crash involving three vehicles on the A64, North Yorkshire Police have said.

It happened at approximately 07:25 GMT on Monday, involving a blue Toyota Aygo, silver Vauxhall Corsa and grey Mazda 2. The casualties were the Toyota and Vauxhall drivers.

The road, a key route between York, Malton and Scarborough, was closed to enable North Yorkshire Police to investigate and to "allow the vehicles involved to be recovered", the force said.

National Highways confirmed at 14:05 GMT on Monday that the incident had been cleared and the carriageway had reopened.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it transported both patients to hospital.

Police appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
